Beverly Foundation STAR Awards

In the years to come, the STAR Search and STAR Awards program will be undertaken in the context of the STP Exchange and open to members. The purpose of the Beverly Foundation’s STAR Search program is to demonstrate to policy makers and service providers the importance of STPs (Supplemental Transportation Programs for seniors).

Visit our STAR Search reports section for information about past STAR Search and STAR Awards

STPs Materials
A number of materials are available to help members provide transportation to seniors. A major resource is the Volunteer Driver TurnKey Kit. The Turnkey Kit is a practical "how to" technical assistance tool for organizations and agencies interested in planning, implementing and evaluating volunteer driver transportation programs for older adults.  It includes three sub kits: A Planning Kit, an Implementation Kit, and an Evaluation Kit.  A fourth section of the TurnKey Kit provides information about a special volunteer driver model called Volunteer Friends

Virtual Journey
A centerpiece of the Exchange is the Virtual Journey, a web-based, simulated trip across the country. A virtual vehicle travels on a scheduled route and its progress is plotted on an interactive map. The vehicle stops at member organizations, highlighting the work that they do to enhance transportation options for seniors in their communities.

Internship Program
Mentorship is a cornerstone of the Exchange. The purpose of the internship activity is to enable students in aging and transportation fields to work side-by-side with managers of STPs and thus prepares them to be the transportation leaders of the future. The Exchange works to identify students who are interested in an internship that provides hands-on experience administering a senior transportation program.

Forums
Members have access to several online forums for information sharing. Amongst these are the community forum, a venue where all members can exchange ideas on the senior transportation topics of their choice; the Q&A Bulletin Board, where dialogue revolves around a highlighted program; and the Beverly Blog, a blog maintained by the CEO of the Beverly Foundation. Other technology such as video conferencing is available at times.
